Are You Happy?

Can you honestly say that you are happy? Prophets and apostles have long taught the secret of being happy. They have taught God’s plan for the eternal happiness of His children. The plan is often called “The Plan of Happiness.” The secret of happiness is very simple: keep the commandments of God. An ancient American prophet by the name of Alma taught his son, “Wickedness never was happiness” (Alma 41:10).

Now scientists have reached the same conclusion. Beverly Campbell writes, “The latest scientific research on happiness supports and validates God’s plan of happiness.” In her article titled “The 3 Keys to Happiness: Science Supports What Church Leaders Have Said All Along,” Campbell lists “the three C’s of happiness” and explains “how they relate to the gospel.” Her three keys are: (1) Control – being able to use agency to live our own lives, (2) Connectedness – having faith in God, and (3) Challenge – having a purpose and working to achieve it.

Someone once said that mortals are spiritual beings having an earthly experience. We cannot be happy on earth or in eternity until we use our God-given agency for righteous purposes, have our lifeline connected to God, and work to become the person He wants us to be.
