Pray for America

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday is the fact that our nation must turn to God or continue down the slippery slope towards destruction.  The United States of America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and it became the leader of the Free World because its citizens believed and lived those principles.   Our nation has become steadily weaker as more and more Americans stopped believing those principles and elected leaders who did their best to remove God from our public life.

A wise man named Mosiah once told his people, "Therefore, choose you by the voice of this people, [leaders], that ye may be [led] according to the laws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.
"Now it is not common that the voice of the people desireth anything contrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the people to desire that which is not right; …
"And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land."  (See Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Mosiah 29:25-27.)

We have many leaders in office at this time who do not believe our Constitution was inspired of God and who are doing all they can to change the meaning of the supreme law of our land.  We must elect and support God-fearing men and women who will uphold the laws of our land.  While we are working to elect more constitutional leaders, We The People still have the power to strengthen our great nation by turning to the Lord in prayer.  I know that there is great power in prayer and that God hears and answers the prayers of his people.  I know that the prayers of many righteous people can do much good.

In another nation torn by war and sin, another wise man named Amulek said, "Yea, and I say unto you that if it were not for the prayers of the righteous, who are now in the land, that ye would even now be visited with utter destruction; yet it would not be by flood, as were the people in the days of Noah, but it would be by famine, and by pestilence, and the sword.
"But it is by the prayers of the righteous that ye are spared; now therefore, if ye will cast out the righteous from among you then will not the Lord stay his hand; but in his fierce anger he will come out against you; then ye shall be smitten by famine, and by pestilence, and by the sword; and the time is soon at hand except ye repent."  (See Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Alma 10:22-23.)

Some of these people turned to God, but the majority of the people did not.  They laughed and mocked Amulek because they thought they were too strong and powerful to be destroyed.  The wicked people took the more righteous people, killed some of them and exiled the rest of them.  Within a year, enemies came upon them and totally destroyed them.

We do not have to continue down the slippery slope but can turn back to safety.  The way to do so is to return to the God of this land who is Jesus Christ.  The first thing that we must do is to pray for the good of our nation.  Listen asAndrea Bocelli sings the Lord's Prayer.   His awesome singing is accompanied with an important message about why we must pray for our nation.  May God bless America!
