Political Correctness

The annual National Prayer Breakfast was held on Thursday, February 7, 2013, with the keynote address delivered by Dr. Benjamin Carson, a celebrated pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  In his 25-minute address, Dr. Carson refuted the key elements of the liberal agenda of the Obama Administration.  President Barack Obama sat just a few feet away as Dr. Carson destroyed his agenda.  I could not find a transcript of Dr. Carson’s address, but I found a video of his speech here.  I highly recommend that you take the time to watch the speech.

Conservatives liked the speech because Dr. Carson spoke elegantly about conservative principles, speaking the truth kindly and respectfully.  In fact, he campaigned for more respect in our society.  The first thing he did was attack political correctness and state that it infringed on our right to free thought and free speech.

Dr. Carson openly proclaimed that Jesus is his role model and that he follows the teachings of Jesus Christ; he even dared to quote scriptures and share some of Christ’s teachings.  Dr. Carson spoke about the importance of the educational system in developing well-informed and educated citizens.  He spoke of the fiscal irresponsibility of running up $16.5 trillion debt.  He said that Jesus Christ taught the importance of tithing and reminded us that a tithe is ten percent.  He explained that the ten percent applied to everyone – those who were having difficulty as well as those who were doing well.  He suggested a flat tax and said that there is no need to hurt the successful people because they have already paid a large chunk of their money into our nation.

Dr. Carson is very opposed to ObamaCare.  He does not like the idea of the government funding health care, and he recommended private health savings accounts.  In fact, he suggested that we establish the following for every newborn baby:  a birth certificate, an electronic medical record, and a health savings account.

I do not believe that President Obama liked Dr. Carson’s speech.  Dr. Carson did not say things that supported the Obama agenda, and the President was frowning through most of the speech.  Dr. Carson did not practice political correctness, but he showed how we can kindly and respectfully disagree with each other.
