Restoration of Constitution

The topic of discussion for this Constitution Monday is the simple fact that we have lost many of the freedoms once protected by the Constitution of the United States.  In order to regain those lost freedoms, the Constitution must be restored.

In an article entitled “The Great Constitution Apostasy:  A Parallel” Gary C. Lawrence compared the apostasy from gospel organized by Jesus Christ to our apostasy from the Constitution.  He claims that we need a restoration of the Constitution just as we needed a restoration of true Christianity.  He questioned what the restoration of the Constitution would require.

Lawrence explained that Jesus Christ organized a church that fell into apostasy because men replaced priesthood power and authority with priestcraft.  He also explained that “God gave us the Constitution of the United States” that is falling into apostasy “because worldly wisdom seeks to substitute a regulatory state for a constitutional republic.” When the religious apostasy occurred, “the church morphed with the state.”  In the constitutional apostasy, “the state has become a religion.  In both apostasies, unsavory elements under cover of lip service manipulate the systems for power and gain.”

Lawrence further explains the difference in the way power is used in the Gospel of Jesus Christ (to help, to lift, to exalt) and the Constitution (to limit power to prevent its abuse).  Just as “worldly wisdom denies the Atonement, substitutes false priesthoods, ridicules repentance, scoffs at bodily resurrection and life after death, perverts procreative powers, gives service only as a quid pro quo, and mocks temple ordinances, it also diminishes “each of the power-controlling principles in the Constitution” such separation of powers, division of powers, and limited powers.

In his further explanation, Lawrence compared the effects of apostasy on the collection of funds.  “Tithing and free-will offerings” were “insufficient” to pay for the “pomp and luxury” of a paid priesthood.  In the same way, “taxes and tariffs were insufficient to provide for the growth of government services and entitlements, especially as politicians traded goodies for votes….”  This causes “legislated law to wither” and the “primacy of the Constitution” to fade.

Lawrence concluded his very interesting article with “The apostasy from true Christianity required a restoration.  The establishment of the Constitution required a revolution.  What will the restoration of the Constitution require?”

My regular readers must understand by now that I expect difficult times to come to our nation before the Constitution is once again considered the Supreme Law of our land.  I personally would not be surprised to see much more blood flowing in our streets due to the fact that many people live within the borders of the United States who do not want to live by the Constitution of the land.  Since wickedness continues to grow, I expect that the blessings of God will continue to be withheld and America will be left to its own strength.  I believe that America will return to greatness only when Americans return to the worship of the true God of the land, even Jesus Christ.
