Delegate Count

I was pleased to see how well Ted Cruz did in Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Maine last weekend.  He won in Kansas in a big way, winning 48.2% to Donald Trump’s 23.3% of the votes.  He also won in Maine with a margin, winning 45.9% to Trump’s 32.6%.  Trump won in the other two states with smaller margins:  Kentucky (Trump 35.9%, Cruz 31.6%) and Louisiana (Trump 41.4%, Cruz 37.8%).

Here are the estimated total numbers of Republican delegates after the March 5 contests:  Donald Trump (391 delegates), Ted Cruz (302 delegates), Marco Rubio (147 delegates), and John Kasich (37 delegates).  The winner needs at least 1237 delegates to win the nomination.  We can see that Cruz is within 90 delegates of Trump and still has room to win – but time is running out for him.  He needs to win some big ones in the next few days.

Sunday was the regular fast Sunday in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I did not know the purpose for which I should fast, and I took some time to ponder and pray about it.  I felt prompted to fast and pray for the good of our nation; almost immediately afterwards, I felt the prompting to ask others to join me in fasting and praying for our nation.  Will you please join me?

Our nation is standing at another crossroads.  We can either continue down the road we have traveled for the past eight years, or we can change directions.  We have a very clear choice with a big variety of possibilities that stretches from a self-proclaimed socialist (Sanders) to a strict constitutionalist (Cruz) – and everything between them.  The people have the power to choose which road our nation will take.  I hope and pray that Americans are wiser than they were in 2008 and 2012 and make a better choice!
