Demands for Religious Freedom

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday is the simple fact that we must demand our freedom of religion. This freedom is supposed to be protected by the U.S. Constitution, but it is under attack from all sides.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke in the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
“We want the blessings of religious freedom to be claimed by all the inhabitants of this planet, and we are far short of that at present…. We are at a time when religious freedom is under pressure. There is pressure to define religious freedom as something that takes place in church or a synagogue and is not entitled to a place in the public square.
“We demand as a matter of constitutional right a place in the public square and want to use our religious freedom to accomplish [good].”
Elder Jeffery R. Holland spoke to the same group a year ago. I wonder if any of the apostles have spoken directly to the Senators and Representatives in the Congress of the United States. I wonder if it would do any good if they did!
