Second Amendment Saves Lives

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America grants the right to “keep and bear arms” to American citizens. It was written because the people wanted to be capable of protecting themselves from a tyrannical government. More than 200 years have passed without Americans taking up arms against their government, but the right and the ability to have guns has saved many lives.

In spite of the right to keep and bear arms being a part of the Supreme Law of our nation, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and other “progressives” continue their assault against this guaranteed right. In spite of the fact that all the mass murders have taken place in “gun free zones,” such as schools and theaters, progressives continue to claim there is no need for Americans to carry guns.

I am a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), and, as such, I receive one of their monthly magazines. My favorite part of the magazine is the one-page article titled “The Armed Citizen.” The monthly article lists several – five to eight – situations where good guys with guns stopped bad guys with guns and protected life and/or property. These incidents take place in private homes and public spaces.

Here are some examples from the September 2016 America’s 1st Freedom magazine. Several people saw a purse snatched from a shopping cart in a parking lot in Wichita, Kansas, on 30 May 2016. A couple of them chased the purse snatcher and held him at gunpoint until the police arrived.

An estranged husband was shot by his wife at their teenage son’s birthday because he physically fought with them and threatened verbally to kill the son. When the mother picked herself up off the ground, she went into the house and retrieved her gun. She fired two shots at her husband, who later died at the hospital. Prosecutors in Florida ruled that she had the right to shoot because her husband was assaulting her son.

A pharmacy owner in Pennsylvania watched a man walk into his pharmacy wearing a Halloween mask and attempting to conceal a shotgun in an umbrella. The owner issued several warnings for the man to stop, but the robber hopped the counter to get to the owner. The business man fired about a dozen shots and hit the robber several times. The robber died, and his accomplice in the vehicle was arrested.

The good guys in these examples were able to save life and/or property because they had the right to “keep and bear arms.” These kinds of incidences do not make the nightly news. It seems that the lame stream media is only interested in the mass killings and the opportunity to call for more gun control.
