Trump's First 100 Days

The first 100 days of the Trump Administration are over. Donald Trump says that the job of President is harder than he expected it to be. I suppose that it is harder than any of us think it is. If it is so difficult for an experienced, successful businessman, can you even imagine how difficult it was for a junior Senator from Illinois who had little experience besides being a community agitator organizer?

Democrats and Republicans-in-Name-Only (RINOs) – like Senator John McCain – have fought Trump at every opportunity. Yet, they are the first to bash his achievements. Democrats in both the House and the Senate criticize Trump. They say that he has failed to keep his campaign promises, particularly on health care reform, tax reform, and foreign policy. Senator Chuck Schumer (D, N.Y.) gives Trump an F for his efforts. He says that the “swamp” is “murkier than ever” now and that Trump is not improving in his presidential abilities. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D, Calif.) says that it is “one hundred days of broken promises.”

I say that these Democrats are wrong. It seems to me that they do not realize the hole that Barack Obama dug for the United States. I believe that Trump was remarkably successful. The economy improved and businesses started hiring only days after his election. Illegal crossings at the border dropped to the lowest level in 17 years in the first months after Trump’s inauguration but are still too high at approximately 400 per day. He nominated and received confirmation for a conservative Justice on the Supreme Court. He loves the men and women in the Armed Services, and they know that their Commander-in-Chief has their back. He released the professionals in the military to do their jobs with some spectacular results. He obviously supports our first responders.  He confirmed our support to our allies, and he put our enemies on notice that there is a new “sheriff in town.” He started draining the “swamp” by firing many of the hold overs from the Obama administration. These are all great achievements to me.

Fred Lucas posted an article titled “Promises Kept, and Not Yet Kept, in Trump’s First 100 Days” at The Daily Signal. I like the way he stated it. “Not yet kept” reminds us that he just started dismantling the monster created by the Obama administration. Among the Trump achievements that Lucas mentions is the progress made on a tax reform proposal and NAFTA renegotiation last week, his budget proposal that included many of his promises, confirmation of Justice Gorsuch, his thirty executive orders (construction of a border wall, requirement to delete two regulations for every new one, federal hiring freeze, Keystone XL and Dakota oil pipelines, less restriction on energy production – particularly oil and coal), decreasing illegal immigration even though courts have ruled against him on banning refugees and sanctuary cities, and signed 28 pieces of legislation – most rolling back Obama regulations).

Among Trump’s promises “not yet kept” are repealing and replacing Obamacare. It appears to me that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan does not really want to repeal it, but I do not know why. I do not like the news that Congress has exempted itself again from the health care law they want Americans to live under.

Lucas says that some of Trump’s greatest initiatives were unexpected ones in the national security area. They include the strike on a Syrian air base after Bashar Assad used chemical weapons on his own people, the dropping of the “mother of all bombs” (MOAB) in Afghanistan to destroy the caves used by Islamic State, and the standoff with North Korea.

While the Democrats give Trump an F (What more would you expect?), the president of Tea Party Patriots gives him an A for keeping most of his promises. I too would give President Trump an A for his efforts. Yes, he came into office without knowing the difficulty of the job. However, he is willing to learn, and he is learning. My reason for the high mark is his willingness to stand up to the enemies of America – both foreign and domestic. Trump will not bow to anyone, particularly our enemies.

Trump is probably making mistakes, but I am willing to give him more time for on-the-job learning before I condemn and call him a failure. I always questioned Obama’s feelings about the United States, but I have no doubt that Donald Trump loves America. I believe that Trump is right in his assessment: “No matter how much I accomplish during the ridiculous standard of the first 100 days, & it has been a lot (including S.C. [Supreme Court]), media will kill!” Leftists do not want Trump to succeed. They do not want him to “make America great again.” They do not want the “swamp” drained. I am pleased with his progress so far, and I would vote for him again!
