Are We Free from Petty Democrat Impeachment Actions?

            The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday concerns impeachment of the President of the United States. The Founders understood that it might be necessary to remove a president from office for treason or other crimes and high demeanors. However, they desired to keep impeachment from becoming merely a political tool to use against the opposite party. The Democrats in the House of Representatives made the Founders worst nightmare come true when they impeached Donald Trump without any specific crime being committed.


            The Senators in the Upper House listened to the prosecutors from the House and the President’s defense attorneys for eleven days and then made their decision. Yesterday the Senate voted to acquit President Trump on both articles of impeachment. Fred Lucas explained the proceedings in an article for The Daily Signal.

After speeches by senators, Chief Justice John Roberts, who presided over the trial, gaveled in the court of impeachment to render verdicts in one of the least suspenseful of political acts.

The Senate voted 52-48 to find Trump not guilty on the charge of abuse of power, with only one Republican, Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, joining all Democrats and two independents in a guilty verdict.

The Senate then voted 53-47 to find Trump not guilty of obstruction of Congress, with Romney joining the rest of the Republicans in acquitting the president.

Even though the Democrats rushed their impeachment actions and never came up with a specific crime, they say that they plan to continue their effort despite the Senate’s acquittal of Trump. Trump’s approval numbers have been going up since Democrats launched their impeachment action. 

One would think that Democrats would learn from their terrible mistake and stop their partisan attempts to take Trump down. However, Democrats are clearly not learning anything. Instead of doing the people’s work in Congress, they continue to plan ways to hurt Trump. Their antics remind me more and more of Wiley Coyote trying to take out the Roadrunner. 

I can only think that they are incapacitated by Trump Derangement Syndrome and do not comprehend what is happening. Hopefully, Trump and Republicans will win in landslide victories in November and vote the incompetent, do-nothing Democrats out of office.
