Who Is Robert Unanue?

My VIP for this week is Robert Unanue, the CEO of Goya and member of President Donald Trump’s Hispanic Prosperity Initiative. He is a man who has done much to improve the way of life for the Hispanic community. When the President invited him to join the Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, he was eager to accept and attended the ceremony of the signing of the executive order to create it.

It was at the signing ceremony that Unanue made his “mistake” – he praised President Trump. “We are all truly blessed … to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder. We have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president.” According to an article by Tony Perkins at The Daily Signal, the cancel culture immediately started the hashtag #BoycottGoya.

Unanue worked with the Obama White House as well as the Trump administration and had a difficult time believing the cancel culture was coming after him. Why would they come after him as he had “just pledged to donate 2 million cans of food to needy U.S. families”?

“You’re allowed to talk good or talk praise to one president but … all the sudden that’s not acceptable,” Unanue told Fox News. “If you’re called by the president of the United States, you’re going to say, ‘No, I’m sorry, I’m busy, no thank’? I didn’t say that to the Obamas, and I didn’t say that to President Trump.”

Asked if he would apologize for the comments, Unanue said absolutely not. In fact, he made his feelings clear that a liberal boycott was just another attempt at “suppression of speech.”

Patriotic Americans like to see people with a backbone who stand up to the cancel culture. They recognize that the “cancel culture is out of control,” and they supported Unanue’s refusal to “bend to the angry fringe.” Instead of boycotting Goya foods, Americans went to stores and purchased numerous cans and boxes of company foods. A man in Virginia started a GoFundMe page and raised $77,000 “to buy Goya Foods products and donate them to local food pantries.”

Unanue and supportive Americans understand that there is no way to appease the mob. We can either stand up to them, or we can surrender. If we surrender, the country will be lost. If we desire to a “guarantee that our country and freedom survive,” then we must be courageous, stiffen our spines, and make a stand – just as Unanue did.
