Why Do We Commemorate Veterans Day?

            Tomorrow is Veterans Day in the United States, a day that we remember the service of veterans of all ages. We also remember the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. Veterans Day is a day to thank all veterans for their willingness and ability to stand between our homes and the enemies of our nation.

            Veterans Day is always celebrated on November 11 because the Treaty of Versailles to end World War I was signed on the 11^th day of the eleventh month at 11:00. This day was called Armistice Day until 1954 when Congress changed the name officially to Veterans Day.

            Veterans Day serves as an opportunity to honor the past and ongoing contributions by our American veterans. It differs from Memorial Day which is a day to remember the fallen members of the military as well as our loved ones.

            To all our veterans, THANK YOU for your service in the military and for using the skills learned during military service to benefit Americans once you re-enter civilian life. Thank you for remembering why you fought for our nation and thank you for expanding our knowledge of the greatness of America.
