Why Does America Need Masculine Men to Shoulder Their Responsibilities?

            The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday is that America needs men who will shoulder the responsibility of being husbands and fathers. America needs men who will take their place in contributing good to the society. Men are targeted by the progressive movement and have been for numerous years. Members of the movement labeled men with the label “toxic masculinity” and claim they are bad for America. It is time for men to be men again and to use their masculinity to do good in their families, in their communities, and in their nation.

            Senator Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) spoke at the National Conservatism Conference last week and was later interviewed by The Daily Signal. 

The Missouri Republican criticized the liberal label “toxic masculinity” and called for a new message to be sent to the men of America: one that focuses on the good that men can accomplish if they orient their masculinity toward the good.

“We need you to be working…. We need you to be supporting a family. We need you to be contributing members of society because you can be a tremendous force for good.”

            Critics, of course, pounced on Hawley’s remarks and accused him of looking down on women. However, Hawley stood up to the criticism and said that both strong men and strong women are needed and their differences can complement one another. “Responsible men complement and empower strong and responsible women … and vice versa.” Hawley claimed that his ideological critics are opposed to gender, masculinity, and womanhood.

This is why you see them attacking women’s sports…. The left wants to destroy the spaces that have traditionally been spaces for women in this society. And girls’ sports is a leading example.

The left really is attacking gender, man and woman…. And they just don’t believe in gender anymore. They believe, I guess, that all of that is optional, and all of that is to be defined however the left at present wants it to be defined.

            In his remarks at the National Conservatism Conference, Hawley invited young men to join the fight to save the nation. He encouraged them to leave their pornography and video game and start looking for work. “These are able-bodied men. These are prime age working men. That’s a problem, that’s a crisis.” He continued, “We’ve got an epidemic of fatherlessness in the country, 18 million American kids don’t have their fathers present in their lives or in the home…. These are genuine crises.”

            Liberals label manhood and male characteristics as “toxic” and insist that men are the reason America is oppressive. Hawley told The Daily Signal, “My response to that is, ‘Not true…. We need to call men to be who they were made to be and to step up and be responsible.”

We want men who are going to be responsible, who are going to use their assertiveness, who are going to use their bent toward independence. They’re going to use their bent toward competitiveness to serve other people, to serve this country, to provide for their families, for the children that they father, for the women that they love….

We need you…. We need your masculine qualities, that assertiveness and the competitiveness … We need those qualities.

We need you to shoulder responsibility…. We need you to blaze a trail. We need you involved in your families and in your communities….

As I said in the speech, you’re not going to get any excuses made from me for men…. I think responsibility is one of the most important things that God can give us. And that is true, men.

So, for men who don’t want to work for men who don’t want to take responsibility, for men who want to retreat into violence… they own those choices…. Men are not victims. And I don’t think we need any more victim talk in this country, we certainly don’t need it for men.

… [Men have] a lot to contribute to society.

Those voices on the left, particularly, who want to define masculinity as inherently toxic, who want to say that if you display those masculine characteristics, you are contributing to the oppressiveness of America, that’s wrong, that’s the wrong message.

            God made male and female when He created Adam and Eve because He intended men and women to work together for the good of mankind. He created men and women different because a family needs both a father and a mother. Fathers can teach children lessons and qualities that mothers do not even understand.

America needs the type of masculine men who won World War I and World War II and defended America in many places around the world. America needs the type of men who were willing to go into space. America needs men who are willing to go to work every single day to provide for their wives and children. America, women, and children need men to stand up and be men and to use their masculinity for the good of all humanity.
