Who Is Christopher Columbus?

Today is Columbus Day, so it is only natural that my VIP for this week is Christopher Columbus. According to a national poll conducted by WPA Intelligence and Visto Media for Bienvenido, Columbus has a “higher net favorability rating among Hispanics in the US than President Biden or VP Harris.” During the time period of October 4-6, 2022, 1,086 Hispanics living in the United States were polled. Fifty-three percent (59%) viewed Columbus favorable, and 24% viewed him unfavorably, giving him a 29% net favorability rating.

In comparison, Biden had a positive 7% net favorability rating and Harris had a 4% positive net favorability rating. At the same time, 49% viewed Biden favorably, and 42% viewed him unfavorably. For Harris, 45% viewed her favorably and 41% viewed her unfavorably. Alex Nitzberg added the following information to his article.

“It is not surprising that the same people who think Hispanics like being called ‘Latinx’ have also assumed Hispanics are offended by Christopher Columbus – and got it completely wrong, again,” principal and managing Director of WPA Intelligence Conor Maguire noted, according to the Daily Wire. “In the future, maybe progressives should just ask Hispanics how they feel about issues?”

“When you juxtapose Christopher Columbus’ popularity among Hispanics with the misguided efforts to ‘cancel’ him by progressive activists and politicians, it shows how out of touch the far left is with our community,” Bienvenido president Abraham Enriquez said, according to the outlet. “The reality is that most Hispanics, especially those who are immigrants, view Columbus quite favorably.”
