Why Are Americans So Divided?

Most thinking Americans understand that there is a deep divide in America. The Senate was evenly divided for the 2021-2022 session and will be almost evenly divided for the 2023-2024 session. The House of Representatives is almost as evenly divided with a difference of eight or ten with Democrats in the majority for the 2021-2022 session and Republicans in the majority for the 2023-2024 session.

Many people believe that the division was caused by Donald Trump or politics in general. Last Sunday on his program “Life, Liberty & Levin,” Fox News host Mark Levin argued that the cause of the division goes much deeper than any conservatives understand. According to Levin, the core of the problem is the control that liberals have over the education, media, and entertainment – “the main influencers of culture.” Now that the leftists have control of those three influencers, they are determined to destroy or control “the two other major pillars of society – the church and the nuclear family.” USAAnews.com reported on Levin’s comments.

“The reason this nation is so thoroughly divided is we’re divided along those who really believe in the founding principles of our country – liberty, and when you look at the Bill of Rights, the issues related there – and those who want to change the country into something that is, well for many of us, horrific,” Levin added.

“That’s the battle that’s going on, and it goes well beyond politics, it goes right to the heart of the culture and so forth,” he said.

Levin based his statements on the writings of Thomas Sowell in his 2010 book, “Dismantling America.” Sowell argued that the division started with the election of Barack Obama in 2008. Obama was “the most far-left president in U.S. history” before Biden, but his election was decades in coming.

“What that means is that, even if we somehow manage to survive this man’s reckless economic policies at home and his potentially fatal foreign policy actions and inactions,” Sowell wrote at the time, “the gullibility and fecklessness of those voters who put him in the White House will still be there to be exploited by the next master of glib demagoguery and emotional images, who can lead us into another vortex of dangers, from which there is no guarantee that we will emerge as a free people or even as a viable society.”

Levin argued – and I agree – that Obama and the Democrats have been pushing for years to move America towards philosophical Marxism. He noted that Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez never mention “property rights or individual liberty,” but they often mention “class warfare or racial division.”

Like Obama before him, Biden often uses “the language of class warfare” in his speeches. He says that “the wealthy must be made to pay their ‘fair share’ of taxes,’ though they have paid the lion’s share of federal income tax revenue for decades.”

The non-partisan Tax Foundation found in 2019 (the most recent statistics available), with the tax rates that are still in place now, the top 10 percent of wage earners (those making approximately $155,000 or more per year) paid over 70 percent of all income tax revenues collected, while the bottom 50 percent (those making about $44,000 or less) paid just 3.1 percent.

Levin cited several ways that “cultural Marxists” are seeking to take total control of America. One way is “the destruction of real education” where we “see the effort to say that parents have no say in education” and where the education union members believe that they have “the right to control your children and their minds as parents do.” According to Levin, Marxism seeks to replace “the values of the family … with a common social education.”

“It’s intent [is] to destroy the nuclear family, because in order to indoctrinate your children as actors for the state you have got to destroy the family. The greatest obstacles to advancing this so-called nirvana or paradise or utopia, is the family and faith,” Levin said.

Levin and other believe that the recently passed “Respect for Marriage Act” was misnamed and should have been called the war on religion act because the goal of the new law is “to prevent religious institutions [Jewish, Christian, Muslim] from teaching their faith in various formats, hospitals, schools, think tanks and so forth – and to create federal crimes, so the federal government can impose its will.”

This is the reason by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) tried to amend the law. He sought to protect “faith-based organization and business owners who believe in traditional marriage from being placed in greater legal jeopardy” by the new law. Leftists are trying to deconstruct the American culture and replace it with Marxism, and there are too many Americans who are still voting for Democrats! They are the same people who condemn conservatives who are battling to save the Republic and our American way of life.

“We’re a great nation that represents the unalienable rights of the individual, that rights come from God, that there is a natural law, a right and a wrong, a good and an evil and that all our rights in the law don’t come from the present-day politicians and their supposed wisdom,” Levin said.

According to Levin, establishment Republicans “are looking for easy answers,” while “Americans who support time-tested traditional values are losing elections.” He said that too many people do not “understand the depths of the problem” and do not “want to address it.” He added that “their idea of successful politics is to meet halfway the party that is hell-bent on destroying the country.”

I agree with Levin that Marxists are trying to destroy our Constitution and America by destroying religion and the nuclear family. All Christians should understand that any individual or organization that is anti-family is also anti-Christ. Marriage and the family are instituted by God for the benefit of His children, and we will be held accountable by God for how well we protect them.
