Will America Survive the Migrant Invasion?

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday is the fact that sovereign nations must have secure borders. The Trump administration brought the flood of illegal migrants to a trickle, but the Biden administration pulled out all the stops. The last hope to hold back the hordes of immigrants charging our southern border was taken out today.

Speaker of the House Keven McCarthy led a group of committee leaders to a press conference this morning. The press conference followed the passing of a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives to secure the southern border of the United States. There are some provisions in the bill that I support, such as restarting the construction of a wall along the border, the ending of catch and release, and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy. The bill was called the strongest border control bill ever passed. As has come to be expected, the bill passed on mostly party lines. All the Democrats voted against the bill, and they were joined by two Republicans. The vote was 219 to 213.

The bills should have been made into law years ago, but I applaud the Republican-majority House in passing it. However, I cannot understand why Democrats did not support it. Title 42 – a policy put into place by Trump to allow Border Patrol to expel some illegal immigrants – supposedly those with COVID-19. Now that Title 42 has expired, encounters with illegal aliens at the border are surging. Virginia Allen at The Daily Signal wrote the following information.

The vote on the bill comes the same day as the expiration of Title 42, a public health measure set in place under the Trump administration that has allowed Border Patrol to quickly expel some illegals aliens from the county. Without Title 42, illegal alien encounters at the southern border are expected to double, with the Department of Homeland Security projecting an average of 13,000 encounters a day.

Encounter numbers have already spiked this week, with Fox News’ Bill Melugin reporting Wednesday that Customs and Border Protection sources tell him “Border Patrol apprehended more than 10,300 migrants who crossed illegally yesterday, and Monday also broke the 10,000 threshold. I’m told these are the highest single day totals ever recorded – and it’s expected to go even higher after T42 drops tomorrow.”

Biden and members of his administration have repeatedly said that the southern border was secure, even as thousands of immigrants were invading the United States. The Biden policies created and continued a huge humanitarian and national security problem. As the crisis grows, it becomes clearer that the Biden administration failed to plan and prepare for ending Title 42.

The House bill took several months of deliberation, but the House finally passed a bill. The question is, will the Senate even look at it?
