Why Does Preservation of America Begin With the Declaration of Independence?

The topic of discussion for this Constitution Monday is the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the two primary documents for the government of the United States. The latter would never have come to be without the former.

Richard M. Reinsch II claims that “we must begin with the Declaration of Independence” IF our goal is to “conserve the American nation.” Reinsch is the director of the B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies at The Heritage Foundation and columnist for The Daily Signal. He continued by stating, “We should be aware of the richness of this document [the Declaration] and what it teaches us about our rights and duties as Americans.” Reinsch continued: 

Contained within it is a clear statement about the principles of politics, lawful government, the self-governing practices of the colonists, and why they were reclaiming their right to govern themselves in the face of a settled pattern of abuse by the British government.

The declaration proclaims that the “thirteen united States of America” now “assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them.”

The declaration was a statement about the type of politics and order that the “United Colonies” would live under and why they were now rejecting the unwritten English constitution….

The logical Declaration of Independence states that there is a just order that can be defined and used to deal coherently with tyranny and revolution. Such order is evinced in the English constitutional order that the colonists argue has been violated repeatedly by the Crown and Parliament.

The declaration’s signers meant to reclaim the principles of that order in the nation they would build. We might be surprised to learn that the declaration evinces that reason can understand and guide politics, even revolutionary activity.

In that respect, the declaration is our model of reflection, rhetoric, and deliberate action about politics. The question facing us is whether we believe that about the capacity of human reason and politics. Or have other ideas about who we are as persons, as citizens, distorted our thinking?

Our declaration asserts that government is created by the consent of men who are equal in their rights, whose protection fundamentally limits that government.

In defense of those rights, the Continental Congress – which approved the Declaration of Independence – listed 27 grievances, 18 committed by the king and nine by Parliament.

These grievances grounded the call for a new nation in the important second paragraph of the declaration….

The Constitution is currently in danger of being overthrown by progressives and communists in control of our government. We could say that it is now “hanging by a thread” as prophesied by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Rodney K. Smith published the following on December 9, 2019. 

D. Michael Stewart of the Department of History at Brigham Young University wrote in 1976 in the Ensign, “documents show that Joseph Smith [prophesied] a number of times that the United States and the Constitution would be imperiled and [would be saved]. The first known record of the prophecy dates to July 19, 1840, in Nauvoo, when the prophet [taught], ‘[W]hen the Constitution is on the brink of ruin this people will be the staff upon which the nation shall lean and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction.’”

Professor Stewart added that there were additional recorded instances during which the Prophet Joseph made similar statements….

One of the “additional recorded instances” given by Smith was made by Eliza R. Snow. This is her recorded statement: “I heard the prophet say, ‘The time will come when the government of these United States will be so nearly overthrown through its corruption, that the Constitution will hang as it were by a single hair, and the Latter-day Saints … will step forward to its rescue and save it.’”

Another source given by Smith was James Burgess who wrote the following in his personal journal after he listened to the Prophet Joseph speak: “the time would come when the constitution and government would hang by a brittle thread … but this people … will step forward and save it.”

I do not know how or when the Latter-day Saints will step forward to save the Constitution. However, I do not believe that they will be acting alone. There are currently many patriotic men and women who are working to preserve the Constitution. They are trying to root the corruption out of the U.S. government and destroy the power of the secret combinations who are seeking to destroy America and the Constitution. One example of these patriots is the Republicans in the House and Senate who are attempting to discover whether Joe Biden is a compromised POTUS.

It is my personal opinion that everyone who will act to save the Constitution must support a leader who cannot be controlled by the Deep State (or secret combination(s) – the source of the corruption. The only person that I know of that fits this description is Donald Trump.

The Deep State hates Trump because they cannot control him, and they cannot control him because he does not need their money. They were friends with Trump until he announced his candidacy for President of the United States. Then they began working to destroy him. They have tried many different ways to take Trump down, but he keeps fighting for America and Americans.

Millions of Americans recognize that Trump loves America and will continue to fight for this great nation. They stick with Trump no matter how much dirt is thrown against him because no other person has proven that they can continue to stand up against the Deep State. The truth is that the Deep State will destroy everyone who does not join their secret combination.
