Does Your Family Excite You?

Families, communities, states, and nations are stronger when traditional values are adopted and sustained. Yet, traditional values get people “canceled” whenever they defend them. An example an example is Harrison Butker, a field-goal kicker with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. Butker, a Catholic, recently gave the commencement address at Benedictine College, a Catholic school. One would expect a Catholic to speak of traditional values, particularly at a religious school. However, such an expectation did not stop leftists from attacking Butker for such statements as this such statements as this: 

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?” he said. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

Butker then had the audacity to applaud his own wife, Isabelle, for the sole reason of embracing her vocation of wife and mother. In other words he promoted family and recognized that men are different than women. Butker did not say that all women should give up their careers to be stay-at-home wives and mothers. He merely said that “most women in the audience are most excited about their future families.”

If women are most excited about their families, they will be doing whatever they can to make their family stronger – whatever that means in their particular circumstances. It may mean that the mother or father is at home with the children during the early years. It may mean that the mother must go out into the world to work to help provide for her family. Mothers and fathers should both be most excited about their families and do their utmost to strengthen them. When most parents are most excited about their families, then families, communities, states, and nations will be stronger.
