President Donald Trump went to
Europe and showed the world what leadership is. He received a warm welcome by
cheering crowds in Poland. He presented a speech that was compared to President
Ronald Reagan’s speech in Berlin thirty years ago.
Helle Dale at The Daily Signal writes glowing words, such as “superbly crafted and rich in historical context”
and “firm in commitment to the freedom and prosperity of all Europe.” She
writes, “What Trump said, every Pole could understand. Trump spoke of threats,
from Islam and from Russia, and of the will of our common civilization to
survive.” She shares the following excerpts from the speech.
This continent no longer confronts the
specter of communism. But today we’re in the West, and we have to say there are
dire threats to our security and to our way of life. You see what’s happening
out there. They are threats. We will confront them. We will win. But they are
threats. (Break)
We urge Russia to cease its destabilizing
activities in Ukraine and elsewhere, and its support for hostile regimes –
including Syria and Iran – and to instead join the community of responsible
nations in our fight against common enemies and in defense of civilization
itself. (Break)
Our own fight for the West does not
begin on the battlefield – it begins with our minds, our wills, and our souls.
Today, the ties that unite our civilization are no less vital, and demand no
less defense, than that are shred of land on which the hope of Poland once
totally rested. Our freedom, our civilization, and our survival depend on these
bonds of history, culture, and memory.
President appears to be much like
President Reagan, a man who is willing and capable of stating the circumstances
and making demands but doing it all in a friendly way and with a smile on his
face. Dale says that we must give some credit for the speech to the speech
writer, but she also says that “Trump deserves the recognition for the courage
to deliver a strong and direct challenge to the forces trying to attack and
undermine the civilization, the political and ethical system, and the security
of the countries of the West.”
It appears that President Trump had
a jubilant visit to Europe. Conservative sites are gushing about his
accomplishments, and liberal sites are aghast at all the compliments and
support Trump received from leaders of other countries.
