What Happens to the Second Amendment if NRA Is Dissolved?

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday concerns the court case recently filed by New York against the National Rifle Association (NRA).  With headquarters in Virginia, the NRA has been registered in New York since it was first chartered there in 1871. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced last week that she filed a court case to “dissolve” the NRA. She also sued four NRA executives for damages to the membership. She claims that the NRA is mismanaging funds donated by members and must be dissolved.

Numerous people are wondering what in the world James is doing. Even Democrats can see that her stunt could help get Donald Trump re-elected. The NRA filed a countersuit against James for “defamation and seeking to squelch the organization’s right to free speech.” Meanwhile, the NRA is “gaining 1,000 new members a day since the ‘defund the police’ movement began.” The new members may be people who purchased guns during COVID-19.

The NRA has been the target of James since she called it a terrorist organization in October 2018 during a pre-election interview with Ebony magazine. Wayne LaPierre, NRA CEO & EVP, said that the “NYAG’s actions are an affront to democracy and freedom” and “an unconstitutional, premeditated attack aiming to dismantle and destroy the NRA.”  He also called it a politically motivated attempt to discredit and destroy the political power of the NRA. “The NRA is well governed, financially solvent, and committed to good governance. We’re ready for the fight. Bring it on.”

With 1,000 new members per day for the past 70 days, there are 70,000 new members, which brings many dollars into the bank account of NRA. In addition, the lawsuit itself will be answered by many more new members. I encourage my readers to remember that gun stores were considered “essential businesses” from the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown – and they had a difficult time keeping guns on their shelves. This means that thousands of people purchased new guns during the past six months. How many more people will join the NRA because the lawsuit was filed?

Most people who own guns are very protective of their right to keep and bear arms. Now that James is trying to destroy the NRA, the gun owners will become even more protective. It seems to me that James may have poked a sleeping giant who will rise in power to vote against Democrats in November. I certainly hope so! Vote Republican to save the Second Amendment!
