Sarah Huckabee Sanders is my VIP
for this week. She is the White House Press Secretary, and my admiration for
her continues to grow each time that I watch her in action. An example of her
style and courage took place recently.
After President Donald Trump made
the decision to exit the Iran deal, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John
Kerry all condemned the action. When questioned about the situation, Sanders made her position very clear.
I think based on each of those
individuals’ lack of success in this entire process on foreign affairs, they
would probably be the last three people that we would look to for advice and
counsel, and whether or not we had made the right decisions.”
Another even more recent example
took place on Mother’s Day when Sanders was asked if it was more difficult to
work with her children or Jim Acosta of CNN. Sanders spoke like a true mother
when she answered the question.
Probably depends on the day. Both of
them whine pretty regularly. They both like to ask the same questions and
sometimes their tone needs to be adjusted a little bit. So I think that having
kids has prepared me for the job that I have right now. In all seriousness, I
think that having kids is great preparation for anything – especially a job you
need patience for and they have certainly prepared me for this one.
Sanders is the only daughter and youngest child of Mike and Janet Huckabee. She
graduated from Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She
attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she was
elected as student body president. She majored in political science and minored
in mass communications. She graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
When Mike Huckabee ran for the U.S.
Senate in 1992, Sarah began her political education. She was a field
coordinator for her father for his 2002 re-election campaign for governor of
Arkansas. She worked in the U.S. Department of Education under President George
W. Bush and was a field coordinator for his re-election campaign in Ohio in
2004. She managed her father’s presidential campaign in 2016 until he left the
race. Then she became a senior advisor for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential
campaign where she handled the communications for coalitions.
After the presidential election,
Sanders became the deputy White House press secretary. She stood in for Press
Secretary Sean Spicer on May 5, 2017, while he was on Naval Reserve duty. She
was named at White House Press Secretary on July 21, 2017, after Spicer
resigned.
Sanders married Bryan Sanders in
2010, and the couple has three children.
