Socialism in Africa


            Socialism fails wherever it is allowed to take hold of a nation with Venezuela being the latest example. The people there have no water except what they can get from the sewage system. Their electricity system is failing, and the people are starving for lack of food. Yet there are Americans who want to bring socialism to the United States. Why in the world do we want to replace our capitalistic system for socialism.

            According to this article at The Daily Signal, in the 1960s nations in Africa turned to socialism because they thought capitalism and colonialism were the same thing. 
George Ayittey recently presented a lecture at The Heritage Foundation titled “How Socialism Destroyed Africa.” Ayittey is a “senior fellow at the Independent Institute and founder and president of the Free Africa Foundation. He told the story of how socialism destroyed Africa as it “spread over Angola, Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia, among other nations on the [African] continent.” He told how the nations adopted such practices as “nationalizing foreign companies and imposing state controls on rent, prices, imports, and foreign exchange.” He apparently did not mention any nation where the socialist agenda was successful. Socialism may be the cause for so many people from Africa migrating to other nations.

            According to Ayittey, there are “four main reasons why socialism failed in Africa:
(1) “Exploitation and Suppression of the Peasant Majority,” (2) “Administrative Ineptitude,”
(3) “Selfishness of Ruling Elites,” and (4) “An Alien Ideology.” He said that “Socialism as an ideology is alien to Africa” and leaders there failed to “understand their own African heritage.”  He warns that South Africa could be the next nation to be destroyed by socialism. “South Africa seeks to repeat the catastrophic mistakes that we made elsewhere in Africa. You don’t have to go very far from South Africa to see the devastation that socialism left.”

            We must wonder what it is about the human mind, condition, or experience that causes people to think that socialism is a good thing. The only answer I can give is that it is Satan’s counterfeit system to oppose the Lord’s law of consecration. Just like every other counterfeit that Satan introduces to mankind, it spreads by lies, deceit, and desire to gain power and influence over other people.
