How Did Bernie Sanders Win in Utah?

Super Tuesday is over, and the delegations are multiplying. For Republicans, Trump now has 859 of the 1,276 needed to win the nomination, and his only remaining opponent Weld has 1. For Democrats, Biden has 410 of the 1,991 delegates to win the nomination, Sanders has 315, Buttigieg has 26, Warren has 21, Bloomberg has 12, Klobuchar has 7, and Gabbard has 1.

I wonder what keeps some of the candidates in the race. If there are only 1,276 delegates available and Trump already has 859, there are only 417 delegates left. Even if Weld won all that remain, he would not have enough delegates to win the nomination. Why does he even remain in the race? What is he trying to prove -- stupidity?

The Democrat race is not so lopsided. Some candidates have a possibility to win, while others would be a long shot. Of those still in the race, Biden and Sanders have 725 of the 1,991 locked up. Even though there are 1,199 delegates still available, what makes Warren think that she can win more than Biden or Sanders when she cannot win her home state of Massachusetts? Bloomberg did even worse than Warren, so why is he hanging around? The others have either dropped out all ready or are no longer viable.

The bigger question for me is what is going on in Utah? Utah is still a somewhat conservative state with more than fifty percent of its residents being members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even though there are members of the Church of Jesus Christ who are not Republican, most members are fiscal conservatives in nature. Sanders is a self-proclaimed socialist, and everything taught by the Church of Jesus Christ is the total opposite of socialism. I believe that gospel teachings will keep many Utahns from voting for Sanders.

I suppose that there are enough non-members of the Church of Jesus Christ living in Utah to choose Sanders for the Democrat presidential candidate. However, I do not for even a minute think that Sanders will take Utah from Trump. Utahns may flirt with the idea of Sanders beating Trump, but I believe that they will go for Trump in the end. There may be some stupid people in Utah, but I do not think that there are that many of them – not even those who vowed to never vote for Trump.
