My VIP for this week is Rush Limbaugh, conservative radio talk show host. Since the Rush Limbaugh Show was nationally syndicated in 1988, it has the highest rating of all talk shows. He is known as king of the business. Besides being a radio personality and a conservator political commentator, he is the author of seven books and a former television show host. President Donald Trump awarded him with the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, at the State of the Union address on February 4, 2020.
Limbaugh, age 69, stunned the 20 million
members of his radio audience in early February 2020 when he announced that he
had been diagnosed with “advanced lung cancer.” Today he made another announcement
that his stage four lung cancer shows progression despite the treatments that
he has received.
I do not listen to his show often, so I did
not hear the news from Limbaugh either time. Rush – as he is affectionately
known -- has been a leader in the conservative movement for more than 30 years.
He has played a major roll in building and sustaining the conservative
movement, and his passing will be greatly mourned whenever it occurs.
Rush has expressed gratitude for his
blessings numerous times. Now he thanks God for each day that he has and for
waking up each morning. He recognizes that he is being blessed. When I ask that
God bless him and his family with comfort at this time, I am aware that he has faith in Jesus Christ.
I have a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ. It is of immense value, strength, confidence. And that’s why I’m able
to remain fully committed to the idea that what is supposed to happen will
happen when it’s meant to.
There’s some comfort in knowing that some
things are not in our hands. There’s a lot of fear associated with that, too.
But there is some comfort. It’s helpful to be able to trust and to believe in a
higher plan.
