The topic of discussion for this Constitution Monday has to do with Memorial Day. As you most likely know, Memorial Day is a day set apart by the federal government to honor all men and women who died fighting for America. It is not a holiday on which we celebrate, but it is one where we commemorate those who died in the uniform of their country, having made the ultimate sacrifice. More than 1.3 million men and women have died in America’s wars.
Memorial Day is the day that we
remember all those who sacrificed for the good of America. It is only fitting
that we show gratitude for their sacrifices. President Ronald Reagan made the
following statement: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.
We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for,
protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
One way that we can show gratitude
for our fallen heroes is protect and preserve our Constitution and our American
way of life. Socialists have been planning, plotting, and preparing to destroy
capitalism and to install socialism. When we fight against socialism, we show
gratitude for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for America.
One way that we can fight socialism is to
keep critical race theory out of our school systems. This theory looks at
everything through the lens of race and is met to divide Americans along racial
lines. Marxist teachings say that there must be oppressors and oppressed.
Critical race theory teaches that whites are the oppressors, and people of
color are the oppressed. They teach that Americans should have equity – equal outcome
– instead of equality – equal opportunities. They teach children and teens to
hate each other and to hate America.
We can show gratitude for the fallen
heroes by teaching the goodness of America. Yes, there are things in our
history – such as slavery – that should be taught. We should teach all the
things that were evil about slavery. Heavenly Father never intended that any of
His children should be slaves to others. We are all His children, and we should
all have equal opportunities. We should honor our fallen heroes by strengthening,
protecting, and preserving America – not trying to destroy it.
