What Will the New America Look Like?

The flood of migrants crossing America’s southern border will soon become much worse. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced recently that Title 42 will end on May 23, 2022. This public health policy has been only one of several policies to control the border, and it has been effective in turning migrants back into Mexico. The administrative rule was put in place by the administration of President Donald Trump. It allowed U.S. authorities to quickly deport migrants with COVID-19 during the pandemic.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are fighting back against the federal busing of migrants into their states. DeSantis threatened to send migrants to Delaware, the home state of President Joe Biden, while Abbott threatens to send them to the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. Jarrett Stepman had the following to say about their moves.

“To help local officials whose communities re being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said at a Wednesday press conference.

That may not resolve the issue, but at least it sends a message to Washington that this is a Washington-caused crisis that’s becoming intolerable for beleaguered border states.

According to a White House spokesperson, the federal government, not states, has the responsibility to enforce America’s immigration laws. As noted by Stepman, the use of the word “enforcement” seems like a bad word for the spokesperson to use because the federal government is not enforcing America’s immigration laws. The use of this word may come back to bite the administration.

The number of migrants coming across the border is huge – more than a million people coming into the United States illegally during the first year of the Biden administration. That number, plus the anticipated number after Title 42 ends, is anticipated to bring sixty million illegal immigrants into the United States during the four years of the Biden administration. Sixty million undocumented migrants will cause numerous changes in America. There were 326.69 million people in the United States in 2018, so 60 million people amounts to an enormous number of additional people – people who do not speak English and cannot legally work in the United States.
