Why Are Christians Being Attacked?

The topic of discussion for this Constitution Monday concerns freedom of religion. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States protects the right to freedom of religion. The government cannot make any laws preventing freedom of religion, and it also has the responsibility to protect the right to freedom of religion from all other individuals and organizations.

According to Ben Johnson at The Daily Signal, the mass murder of three children and three adults at a church-run Christian school “constitutes 2023’s deadliest act of violence of churches.” In addition, the violent attacks against churches in 2023 had “increased nearly three times this year” and “church attacks in 2022 had already tripled over four years.” He continued:

In all, assailants attacked churches 69 times in the first three months of 2023, compared with 24 such acts during the same period last year, a 288% increase. The rising tempo of anti-Christian assaults – which includes arsons, bomb threats, vandalism, and sacrilege – has affected places of worship in 29 states. The motives behind such desecration run the gamut from pro-abortion activism or controversies over transgender ideology to apparently senseless acts of destruction.

The attacks on churches are steadily increasing, but the Department of Justice (DOJ) is slow in finding and bringing the perpetrators of hate and violence to justice. At the same, time the DOJ is extra active in prosecuting Christians who fight for the right to life by praying in front of abortion centers.
