Why Was Mayorkas Impeached?

History was made tonight when the House of Representatives voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Secretary with a vote of 214-213. He is the first cabinet secretary to be impeached since War Secretary William Belnap was impeached in 1876.

Mayorkas survived the first impeachment vote last week, but the impeachment articles were impeached today. All Republicans voted to impeach except three who voted with the Democrats – the same three that voted no last week. Suzanne Bates at The Deseret News reported the following information.

Republicans have blamed Mayorkas for the border crisis, and in the impeachment articles, Mayorkas is accused of violating “laws enacted by Congress regarding immigration and border security. In large part because of his unlawful conduct, millions of aliens have illegally entered the United States on an annual basis with many unlawfully remaining in the United States.”

Of course, President Joe Biden and other Democrats blasted the Republicans for “staging political stunts.” It almost seems like they do not remember the two times that they impeached former President Donald Trump without any constitutional reasons. In his statement, Biden said the following:

“History will not look kindly on House Republicans for their blatant act of unconstitutional partisanship that has targeted an honorable public servant in order to play petty political games,” the statement said. “Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, a Cuban immigrant who came to the United States with his family as political refugees, has spent more than two decades serving America with integrity in a decorated career in law enforcement and public service.”

In fiscal year 2023, more than 3.2 million migrants were encountered at the border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Then in December, the agency saw more than 300,000 encounters at the southern border, a record number. (Emphasis added.)

If Mayorkas had not been so arrogant in declaring that “the border is secure,” he might have had more supporters. However, any border that is crossed by 3.2 million migrants within one fiscal year is definitely NOT secure! In my opinion, Mayorkas lied repeatedly to Congress whenever he went before them.

Some people estimate that the number of illegal crossings at the border have passed 10 million since Biden was inaugurated. If he gets reelected, the numbers could double, triple, or more because our systems are being overwhelmed. The only way to save America from total destruction is to remove Democrats from power and then keep them out.
