The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday concerns national sovereignty. Many years ago, I listened to a radio talk show by Michael Savage and heard him argue the importance of “borders, language, and culture.” He argued that these three elements are essential for a nation to exist. According to Savage, borders establish the physical boundaries of a nation, while signifying sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also said that language and culture are necessary for national identity and unity.
President
Donald Trump and his administration are striving to strengthen the sovereignty
of the United States. Trump’s campaign promise and first step was to seal the
borders to stop people from entering the United States illegally. One reason
that the United States must control its borders is to correct its culture. When
too many people enter the United States in a given period of time, they do not
assimilate into the American culture but keep the culture from their previous
home.
In addition
to the executive order to seal the borders, Trump proclaimed that the national
language of the United States is English. Speaking a common language is
necessary for the identity and unity of a nation.
Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, appeared before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security on Tuesday to answer questions about securing the borders and safeguarding American citizens. According to Jacob Adams at The Daily Signal, she touted one of the successes of the Trump administration – “ending the illegal immigrant border crisis.”
“At
the southern border, we have obtained a near-total control of daily encounters
now, down over 93% since President [Donald] Trump took office,” Noem said.
“March
saw the lowest number of border encounters in recorded history, in the history
of the United States of America, at just under 7,200,” she continued.
The
secretary also emphasized that the administration was prioritizing removing
illegal aliens who have committed crimes in the U.S.
“There
are tens of thousands of illegal aliens that have committed crimes against
individuals in this country, and we have worked very hard to make sure that
those individuals [are the ones that we] are going after and deporting as soon
as possible,” the former South Dakota governor explained.
When
asked about how many crimes illegal aliens had committed against American
citizens, Noem explained that the number was hard to know exactly because the
Biden administration had shut down an Immigration and Customs Enforcement
office responsible for tracking criminal activity by illegal aliens.
“The
VOICE’s [Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement] office within ICE was opened
under the first Trump administration, and President [Joe] Biden closed that
office, I believe, to cover up exactly how many crimes were committed against
people in this country by illegal aliens,” the secretary testified.
Noem
said the administration has reopened the VOICE office, which also enables the
families of victims to track the ongoing criminal cases. One of the challenges
the secretary noted was the sheer backlog of cases facing the immigration
courts.
“So,
we have up to a million cases that are backlogged that need to be processed by
an immigration judge in an immigration court in order to make sure that we are
having those final removal orders and that we do take action,” the secretary
noted.
The
Biden administration opened the borders and sent “invitations” to everyone in
the world to come to the United States. Somewhere between ten million and
twenty million illegal immigrants entered the United States during the four
years of the Biden administration. Is there any wonder that we now have third-world
conditions in many parts of the United States. Illegal immigrants are raping
girls and women. Children, adolescents, and women are being sold into sex
slavery. Drugs are being brought into the United States with the purpose of
killing as many Americans as possible.
The
United States of America cannot remain sovereign with open borders and the
languages and cultures of the World. The American culture was created with the
concept of a melting pot: everyone became stronger by becoming “Americans” and
being unified. We no longer have a melting pot environment. Foreigners come
into America and remain Mexicans, Cubans, Russians, and so on. This is not good
for national sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
