Free the Children

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday concerns the captivity of children on many levels. Children too often bear the brunt of adult needs and desires, and it is far past time that we free the children and allow them to enjoy their childhood without being used by adults.

In the news today is the situation where three people were arrested and charged with “conspiring to smuggle a 9-year-old boy from Mexico to Texas to be sold” according to officials. It seems that a mother, a U.S. citizen currently living in Mexico, allowed her son’s birth certificate to be used to smuggle the 9-year-old boy into the United States. She was paid $1,700 for her part in the conspiracy to sell a boy who is “believed to have been kidnapped.”

The woman brought the allegedly kidnapped boy through the U.S. border at Eagle Pass, Texas, where she rented a hotel room for the night and then took “a shuttle to San Antonio the next day.” She was supposed to meet a Mexican citizen and exchange the boy for $2,500, but the man was arrested the by the San Antonio Police Department. She delivered the boy to another man at a truck stop. The boy was rescued by a sting operation involving Homeland Security Investigations, and the three adults were arrested on conspiracy charges. The woman is also charged with “bringing an illegal alien into the U.S. for profit” and “making a false statement to a federal official upon conviction.”

In another example, a 51-year-old man carried a six-month-old infant across the Rio Grande River on May 7 and was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents based in Hidalgo, Texas. The two people were taken to McAllen, Texas, at the processing center there. Border agents learned that the man had been deported in 2013 and turn the pair over to ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations agents who questioned the relationship. The man claimed that they were a family unit, but a “90-minute rapid DNA test” determined that they are not related. The man from Honduras eventually admitted that the birth certificate for the baby was fake. He was charged on May 10 for alien smuggling.

Democrats are concerned that children are being “kept in cages” at the border, and they say all kinds of horrible things about the agents there. However, they do not seem to care about the many children who are being brought across the border to satisfy some adult need or desire. This farce will stop only when the loopholes in our laws are closed and the border is secured. It is far past time that we build the wall/fence/barrier to secure our border and close the loopholes. We must free the children or be held accountable before God for how they are treated.
