The topic of discussion for this Constitution Monday concerns the freedom of speech. Former President Donald Trump announced last Wednesday that he was filing a class-action lawsuit against Facebook, Twitter, and Google as well as the CEOs of the companies. He said that he acted against Big Tech because they censored him and many other Americans. “There is no better evidence that Big Tech is out of control than the fact that they banned the sitting president of the United States earlier this year. If they can do it to me, they can do it to anyone.” Trump was banned by Twitter after the assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and he was indefinitely banned from Facebook and Google’s YouTube.
According to Virginia Allen, supporters of
the legal action predict that the case will reach the U.S. Supreme Court. At a
press briefing last Thursday afternoon, Brooke Rollins, president and CEO of
the America First Policy Institute said, “Ultimately, we are going to take [the
case] all the way.” Pam Bondi, chairwoman of Constitutional Litigation
Partnership and a former state attorney general of Florida told Newsmax’s
Emerald Robinson that both attorneys on the case and the America First Policy Institute
“believe it will go to the United States Supreme Court.” The America First
Policy Institute established the Constitutional Litigation Partnership for the
purpose of fighting legal battles that threaten the freedoms of Americans.
The class-action lawsuit was filed in the
U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and Trump is the lead
representative of it. All Americans who have been censored by Big Tech companies
are invited to share their personal experiences at TakeOnBigTech.com. Bondi
explained that the legal action is not just about Trump or any one person. “It
isn’t about just the class of people who are joining this lawsuit. It’s about
every American citizen and one of our most basic rights guaranteed to us in the
Constitution – the right of freedom of speech.”
This case allows conservatives “the
opportunity to go on offense and to really begin to retake our country and lift
the Constitution up” declared Rollins. Trump claims that the case will prove that
Big Tech has censored he and many other Americans and that the censorship is “unlawful,
its unconstitutional, and it’s completely un-American.”
