What Are Canadian Truckers Protesting?

            My VIPs for this week are the Canadian truckers protesting in Canada. The drivers drove their big rigs across Canada to protest vaccine mandates and Covid-19 measures. The protest is now in its second week, and it has remained peaceful despite government’s efforts to stop the protest – such as police personnel taking cans of fuel from the truckers and/or their supporters, GoFundMe attempting to steal the $10 million raised to support the truckers, and a judge ruling that truckers cannot honk their horns for two weeks.

            Today I began hearing that government officials are willing to consider the truckers’ demands. Breitbart News posted an article with this statement: 

Truckers paralyzing the Canadian capital in anger at Covid rules showed no sign of backing down Tuesday, as several of the nation’s provinces announced it was time to roll back restrictions that count among the world’s toughest.

With authorities struggling to bring the protest movement to heel, Saskatchewan in the country’s west said Tuesday it was ready to lift all pandemic restrictions, with Quebec and Alberta also signaling plans to ease measures.

            People worldwide are tired of the mandates from authoritarian governments. They are watching what the truckers are doing, and many are sending financial support. Even Justin Trudeau is beginning to use softer language about the truckers. Only time will tell how quickly things move from this point.
