Parents should teach their children to think positively because positive attitudes bring good things to families, communities, and nations. Life is simply brighter when we look on the sunny side of events, so no one should be surprised to learn that the COVID-19 has a sunny side. The birth rate in the United States has been declining for years, but it increased during 2021 by 6.2%. There was a COVID-19 baby “boom” or “baby bump” or “mini-baby boom” or even a “baby blip.” Whatever you choose to call it, it is a good thing for America.
The birthrate declined in 2020 as
the pandemic started. People wanting to be parents worried about job insecurity
and uncertainty worldwide. However, the “baby bust” did not last. According to
Kelsey Nield at the Deseret News, there was a report in the Washington Examiner
about what contributed to the increase in the birthrate. The increase came from
couples having their first child and women under 25 years of age. So, why did
it happen when births usually decline in challenging times? Nield explained as
follows.
Remote work, or working from home, was not
a new concept during the pandemic, but became more prominent in the workplace
to keep employees safe while still keeping businesses running.
Working from home granted more flexibility
to employees, families, and couples, giving them the ability to more easily
deal with the demands of pregnancy and newborns….
For some couples, the prospect of children
didn’t seem so intimidating with the new workplace adjustments. Remote work
gave moms and dads the ability to care for a child, while also having a career.
Whatever the reason for the increase in the birthrate, it is a good thing that came out of a negative time in history. I just realized that my youngest grandchild was one of the babies born in 2021. Babies are wonderful, and they grow up to be great assets in a family. Families with children bring al kinds of blessings to their communities as well as to their nations.
