My VIP for this week is Paulie Giannone, owner of Paulie Gee’s and Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop in Brooklyn. Giannone is one owner of pizzerias in New York City who are being targeted by Democrat Mayor Eric Adams. The target is on any “coal- and wood-burning ovens installed before 2016” and their emissions – which were compared “to the Canadian wildfires.”
New
York City passed a rule earlier this year “mandating that such ovens be bitted
with expensive scrubbers designed to reduce soot, in an attempt to limit air
pollution and fight climate change.” However, the rule may not be effective.
Giannone has already installed expensive scrubbers – about $20,000 for his oven.
In the video interview, Giannone said that he would not install a wood-burning
oven if he were to open a new pizzeria. This means that future visitors to the
Big Apple may not have the experience of eating the traditional pizzas.
