The liberty principle for this week is that all people should be equal before the law – but are not. Even the strongest Never Trumpers must be upset about how former President Donald Trump is being treated. They should be able to see how much the establishment hates the Trump family – particularly after the latest decision in the civil case in New York. If anyone does not see this hate, they must be blind.
As most people know, former President Donald Trump and his sons were named as defendants and tried in a civil case in New York. The case came about when New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against Trump – she campaigned on “Getting Trump” – by claiming that Trump inflated bank statements and deceived the banks. Although none of the banks have claimed that they never lost any money because of Trump, James is determined to “get Trump.” According to Fox News, James is alleged to have brought the case “under a consumer protection statute that denies the right to a jury.”
In
the midst of the case, Trump’s mother-in-law passed away. Chris Kise, Trump’s
lawyer, requested Judge Arthur Engoron to postpone the closing arguments for a
day or two so that Trump could be with his wife. The judge denied the request.
Everyone – whether Trump hater or Trump supporter – should be able to recognize
the cruelty of Judge Engoron. This cruelty is undeniable!
