The topic of
discussion for this Constitution Monday is Americans’ continuous battle to save
the Right to Keep and Bear Arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the
Constitution of the United States. The debate about more gun control laws
continues. Politicians should insist on the strict enforcement of the gun laws already
passed rather than keep calling for more gun control laws.
Hillary Rodham Clinton insists, “We can have common sense gun reforms that keep weapons out of the
hands of criminals and the violently unstable while respecting responsible gun
owners,” and Barack Obama claims, “… there is a way for us to have common sense gun laws. There is a way
for us to make sure that lawful responsible gun owners like yourself are able
to use them for sporting, hunting, protecting yourself.” While these gun
control politicians talk about “common sense gun laws,” gun owners understand
the goal is to control all guns.
People with real common sense
realize that more gun laws would have prevented none of the mass shootings over
the past number of years. This is because more gun laws do not keep mentally
challenged people from getting guns. People who want to commit murder will find
a way to do it. More gun laws simply make life more difficult for responsible
gun owners.
Individuals kill other people
with numerous items, such as knives and automobiles. Where are the pleas for
more knife control or more automobile control? If a person commits murder with
a truck, no one expects other drivers to give up their driver’s licenses or vehicles.
Why should responsible gun owners have to constantly fight for the
constitutional right to keep and bear arms? It is very clear that the fight
continues because liberals do not want Americans to have any guns!
