My VIP for this week is Candice
Owens, a conservative, black woman who supports President Donald Trump. She is
outspoken and not in the least afraid to say exactly what she thinks. I chose
her for the VIP because of her performance before a committee in Congress last
week where she was not intimidated at all.
Owens is one of the leaders of the Blexit
movement – the movement of African-Americans out of the Democrat Party. This
fact alone would make Democrats dislike her. The fact that she is a confident,
no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners type of woman adds to their dislike. Congressman Ted Lieu (D-California)
thought that he would ambush Owens when she appeared before his committee. He
played a clip out of context of her answer to a question about nationalism and
then did not allow her to respond.
Another member of Congress asked
Owens if she would like to respond, and this is what she said. “Mr. Lieu thinks
black people are stupid. He doesn’t believe that black people will pursue the
clip in its entirety. He used an extracted clip.” She was cut short by Chairman
Jerry Nadler who accused her of saying that Lieu was stupid. She quickly
defended herself by telling Nadler, “That’s not what I said, that’s not what I
said at all. You didn’t listen to what I said.”
Owens then continued with her prepared statement. I think that you will agree with me that she is impressive
with her intelligence, articulateness, and self-confidence.
