The big news today is that Liz Cheney lost her re-election bid to remain the lone Representative for the State of Wyoming. Her loss marks the end of a political dynasty for the Cheney family. In fact, January 2023 will be the first time in about fifty years that no individual in the Cheney, Bush, Clinton, or McCain families will be an elected representative in the federal government in Washington, D.C.
Her political obsession with Donald
Trump was one reason that the people of Wyoming rejected Liz Cheney. An
important question is, what caused Cheney’s extreme hatred for Trump? In her
hatred for the former POTUS, she followed in the footsteps of her father, Dick
Cheney. His long political career was tarnished by his “allegations of bogus intelligence and waterboarding” in his “relentless pursuit of Saddam Hussein.”
Harriet Hageman, an attorney,
defeated Cheney with 66.3 percent of the vote compared to Cheney’s 28.9
percent. Cheney’s loss is sad because she was once considered a rising GOP star
with a promising congressional career. In her concession speech, she told her
supporters that her real work is just beginning.
With leftover campaign funds of $7.5
million, she may be considering a run to be the GOP presidential candidate. One
question that is being asked is, will Cheney remain in the Republican Party or
become an Independent or Democrat. One thing is almost certain, she will not be
chosen as the Republican presidential candidate. However, she could have an
effect on the election just by being amongst the candidates.
Cheney’s stated political goal for the
future is to stop Donald Trump from being elected as the President of the
United States. Hatred can be a terrible thing, but hatred for Trump tends to
drive many people crazy.
