Double Standard for Civility

I believe that some of my mother’s sayings would apply to the political situation today. Whenever one of her children would say something that was uncivil, she would say, “That’s like the kettle calling the pot black” or “You are cutting off your nose to spite your face.” The Democrats have been acting uncivilly for the past two years with their riots, protests, outright lies, and scorched earth policies, but they fault the Republicans for being uncivil.

In an interview with Christiane Amanpour at CNN, Hillary Clinton showed plainly that she thinks there should be a double standard for civility. In other words, Democrats can act any way that they choose, but Republicans must always be gentle, kind, and respectful. I agree that kindness and respect will take us a lot further toward unity that being uncivil, but I believe that it must work both ways. I personally was grateful to see Republicans get a backbone and stand up to the Democrats!

In the interview Clinton claims that civility will never return to America until Democrats take power in the House or Senate next month.

You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about…. That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength….

The first sentence of the above paragraph describes how Republicans felt for eight years during the Obama administration. We felt that Obama, Clinton, and their minions were destroying the Constitution and the American way of life. Yes, they were destroying all that we stand for. That is the reason that we elected Donald Trump, and that is the reason why we like him and support him. Clinton continued with her blame game against Republicans.

I remember what they did to me for 25 years – the falsehoods, the lies, which unfortunately people believe because the Republicans have put a lot of time, money, and effort in promoting them. So when you’re dealing with an ideological party that is driven by the lust for power, that is funded by corporate interests who want a government that does its bidding….

I cannot believe that Clinton really said this. I wonder what alternative universe she is living in! Did she watch any of the Kavanaugh hearings? Did she see how the Democrats pulled out all the stops in their attempt to destroy Kavanaugh – and in the process hurt their main witness? They were so bad that Senator Lindsay Graham gained a backbone and called them out for the lust for power!

When Republicans stand up for themselves or their beliefs, Democrats like Clinton think that they are uncivil. They said that Judge Brett Kavanaugh was unhinged because he emotionally and passionately fought for his reputation, career, and family against the smear tactics of the Democrats. They claim that the Republicans are uncivil because they used the law to push the Kavanaugh confirmation to the Supreme Court through the Senate. They claim that Republicans are wrong to support Kavanaugh because he is alleged to be a sexual pervert. They convicted him and found him guilty without a bit of evidence. Yet, they give Bill Clinton a pass for all his sexual assaults even though there is evidence against him.

Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, denounced the “politically charged rhetoric” of Clinton. She insists that Clinton’s words are even worse than her statements during the 2016 presidential campaign.

It’s one thing to call us deplorable, irredeemable, laugh at people who don’t have all the privileges that she has had with her Ivy League law degree and through her marriage to a much more popular man who actually was a two-term president that she’ll never be.

Conway focused her comments on Clinton’s words and called them ““unfortunate and graceless but a little bit dangerous.” She said that she does not “like that kind of talk.” She claims that the uncivility is not coming from the Republicans because Trump “has called for civility” for “all Americans.”

I believe that the only way for the United States to continue moving forward is to keep Democrats out of power. If Democrats take the House of Representatives and the Senate, we will see even more hateful rhetoric and see more of the same type of behavior that took place during the Obama administration. We must have a red wave in November!
