Will Impeachment Be Pelosi's Waterloo?

The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday concerns the right of the American people to believe their government is doing the right thing for America. The U.S. Constitution outlines that Americans vote for a President and Vice President every four years, Senators every six years, and Representatives every two years. The reasoning for forcing Representatives to campaign for re-election every two years is the idea that they are the closest to the people. If they are not doing the people’s business as the people would have it done, then the people can vote them out of office.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi allowed a small group of leftwing idealists to force her to hold impeachment hearings. They began calling for impeachment before Donald Trump was inaugurated, and they searched everywhere for a reason. They thought that the Russian hoax would bring a reason and were disappointed when the Mueller Report was a dud. They kept looking for a cause and thought that they found it in a telephone call between Trump and the president of Ukraine.

Democrats went full speed ahead to impeach Trump on the Ukraine call, but everything they found fizzled out. They insisted that Trump was a danger to the national security and had to be stopped. They rushed through an investigation that was a sham, and they voted to impeach Trump without naming any crimes. It was the fastest impeachment in the history of the United States. They insisted that there was no time to waste, and they pushed through impeachment without any Republican supporters.

Then Pelosi slammed on the brakes and refused to deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial. She has held them for three weeks because she wants to ensure that there is a fair trial in the Senate. She was not interested in fairness during the investigation, but she thinks that the trial should be fair. She is holding onto the articles of impeachment to use them as leverage in the Senate. She does not seem to understand that she has no control over what the Senate does.

By holding the articles of impeachment, Pelosi is proving to all that the impeachment investigation in the House was a sham. She knows that the Democrats in the House have no evidence to move forward to the Senate. The Democrats failed to show that Trump broke the law, and they failed to name a crime that he committed. It is obvious that Donald Trump was impeached because Democrats do not like his policies.

Napoleon overreached his power and met his demise at Waterloo, and I believe that Pelosi has also reached her Waterloo. She is fighting a lot of battles and losing most if not all of them. Democrats in the Senate are telling Pelosi to stop stalling and send the impeachment articles to the Senate. They recognize that Pelosi has nothing on Trump, and they refuse to excuse her behavior. I fully expect Pelosi to retire before the next election.
