The liberty principle for this Freedom Friday is that Americans should be able to serve their nation without being threatened. However, people on the left seem to think that they can issue threats whenever they please. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer threatened Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday, and he did it on the steps of the Supreme Court building at a pro-choice rally.
I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to
tell you, Kavanaugh…. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the
price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful
decisions.
In other words, Schumer was telling the justices to vote the way Democrats want them to vote or face the consequences. He did not say what the consequences would be, but he did issue the threat.
President Donald Trump called for an
apology from Schumer for his inflammatory comments. Chief Justice John Roberts
issued a rare statement in condemnation of Schumer’s words. Resolutions were
introduced in both the Senate and the House on Thursday to censure Schumer for advocating
violence against the two justices. If the Senate votes to censure Schumer, he
will be only the ninth senator in the Senate’s history to be censured.
Even after being called out by the President, the Chief Justice, and his own colleagues, Schumer refuses to issue an official apology. He admits that his words did not sound good, but he refuses to accept responsibility for the way that they came out of his mouth.
Other people are calling for Schumer’s resignation, and I must admit that I would enjoy seeing him forced to resign. It is his arrogance more than anything else that gets to me. He acts as though he has more rights than the rest of us – which is not true. It would be rich indeed if Schumer as well as Nancy Pelosi were forced out of office. Even Democrats deserve better leaders! However, I feel certain that Schumer will not resign over something for which he feels no need to apologize.
