My VIP for this week is Glenn
Youngkin, the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia. The polls show
that the contest is close between Youngkin and former governor Terry McAuliffe.
Realclerpolitics.com polling puts Youngkin ahead by less than two points, Fivethirtyeight.com
has him up by one point. Whoever wins the election, the “contest is seen by
many as a referendum on the Biden presidency and a bellwether for midterm elections
next year,” according to The Guardian.
McAuliffe “shot himself in the foot”
two weeks ago when he told parents that they do not have any right to be
involved in deciding what is taught to their children in public skills. His polls
started dropping immediately, and Youngkin’s polls began soaring. Democrats are
already claiming that the election was stolen – and Election Day is tomorrow. McAuliffe’s
supporters seem subdued, and Youngkin’s supporters are described as “energetic.”
